LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Las Vegas Natural History Museum’s December to Remember exhibit is transforming into a global celebration of cultures and customs from countries across the globe.

“December to Remember at the Las Vegas Natural History Museum is a way for us to learn from our own community about how we’re celebrating winter holidays – the traditions that we share and the different religious influences that are interwoven into those,” education director Grace Njoroge, said. “You’ll see Fest of the Seven Fishes, which is an Italian tradition. You’ll see Kwanzaa, which is a largely African American tradition.”

The museum encourages visitors to explore the diverse and vibrant holiday traditions and celebrations from around the world, showcasing the customs of various ethnic and religious communities.

In partnership with local community groups and civic organizations, the December to Remember showcase offers a unique learning experience through a diverse collection of festive displays and exhibits as well as cultural workshops and performances.

“It’s important that we keep learning and we keep learning from each other, that we allow people to share their own authentic stories because we find that we are so much more alike than we are different,” Njoroge said. “It’s also a way that we can reflect on our own holiday traditions and maybe pick up some new traditions.”

A special reception will be held on Friday, Dec. 6, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., to celebrate and give back. The family-friendly event is open to the public and will feature several holiday exhibits on display with the opportunity to meet and greet the creators, winter-themed science activities, photos with Santa, a jazz quartet, a donation drive, and more.

In lieu of admission prices, entry to the reception is available by donating one item per person to the personal hygiene, baby products, or paper cleaning lists that will benefit Three Square Food Bank. Alternatively, guests can also make donations online between Nov. 1 through Dec. 5.
