LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Las Vegas man who police say told them that aliens told him to kill his father was found competent to stand trial Wednesday, court records showed.

Clark County District Court Judge Christy Craig found Timothy Sahrang La, 35, competent to stand trial on Wednesday, saying he is capable of understanding the nature of the charges against him.

La was arrested in the southwest valley on Feb. 5 on a charge of murder with the use of a deadly weapon after police responded to a home near Blue Diamond Road and Decatur Boulevard after a “hysterical” woman, later identified as La’s mother, called police to report her 73-year-old husband, Eun Jin La, was unconscious and not breathing, the report said.

Eun Jin La, who was discovered in the master bedroom, suffered a gunshot wound to the back right side of his head, according to the Clark County Coroner’s office.

La’s mother told police their son lived with them but she had not seen him since the morning when she left for work. Police later found La walking in the neighborhood and took him into custody. During an interview with police, he told them he believed “he was saving someone a ‘worker’ from being tortured” and “this ‘worker’ was wearing the skin of his father’s face,” according to the documents.

La told police that he walked around the neighborhood after the shooting. Police found the 9mm gun and a 9mm casing at the home.

La is scheduled to return to court on March 31.
