LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Las Vegas man was sentenced to a minimum of six years in prison for a conviction on sexual assault and coercion charges, the Nevada Attorney General’s Office announced on Thursday.
Justin King, 37, was prosecuted by the state because of a conflict of interest with the Clark County District Attorney’s Office. King is the son-in-law of an employee in the DA’s office, according to a Las Vegas Review-Journal report.
King was found guilty of the charges — both category B felonies. The sentence calls for six to 20 years in prison.
He was arrested on May 30, 2023, after he offered a ride to the victim near Fremont Street, according to a news release from Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford’s office.
When she accepted, he used the pretext to kidnap her and attempt to sexually assault her, according to the AG’s office.
“Justice has been served with this sentence,” Ford said. “Our thoughts are with the victim as she navigates the aftermath of this traumatic event and I sincerely hope that this decision is helpful in her journey to heal. Crimes like these, which mortify those of us with a heart, cannot go unpunished.”
