LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Donald Trump was targeted Saturday in what law enforcement officials called an assassination attempt during a rally in Pennsylvania. The former president was pulled away by Secret Service agents with his ear covered in blood.
In the immediate aftermath of the attempt on Trump’s life, 8 News Now spoke with a handful of Las Vegas residents and one woman in town from New York to visit her daughter.
Sheila Klapper-Barret, a New York resident, was admittedly conflicted and at a loss for words.

“This is terrible,” Klapper-Barret said. “Our whole country is just falling — I mean, how much farther apart can we fall?”
Dijeet Masuda, a resident of Las Vegas, felt similarly.

“It’s unfortunate that there’s political violence,” Masuda said. “It shouldn’t happen.”
Jacquelina Olivera, who also lives in the Las Vegas valley, called the events “insane.”

“Even with all the difference – political difference – he’s a human being,” Olivera said. “He don’t deserve that. It’s crazy how the violence is right now.”
Charvis Holifield, another Las Vegas local agreed that the situation was “crazy.”

“I’m interested to hear what happens next,” Holifield said. “I hope he gets well or whatever you know. I hope he’s not injured too bad.”
