LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A judge denied setting bail Thursday for a man accused of driving impaired and killing a father due to other open criminal cases, including a second pending DUI charge.
James McCoy Jr., 62, was on his way to pick up his six and eight-year-old daughters from Howard Heckethorn Elementary School on Feb. 21 when Jesus Robles Jr., 49, allegedly collided with him.
McCoy was riding an e-bike in a designated and marked bicycle lane, police said. Police suspect Robles was driving impaired, adding his car was not registered.
Robles has two open criminal cases: one in North Las Vegas Justice Court and a second in Las Vegas Municipal Court, the 8 News Now Investigators have learned. The second case involves DUI allegations.

After Robles’ arrest Saturday, a judge denied setting bail due to the other open DUI case and Robles’ history of failing to appear in court.
On Tuesday, Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Joe Bonaventure ordered Robles released because prosecutors had not formally filed criminal charges against him, the judge said in court Thursday. However, Robles was remanded into custody for his North Las Vegas case.
During Thursday’s hearing to address bail again, Clark County Deputy District Attorney Yu Meng argued Bonaventure reinstated the initial judge’s no-bail hold, calling the bail issue “an honest procedural mistake.”
Bonaventure noted his concerns and denied setting bail. He also scheduled a future court date for March 13.
