LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — As the city continues to fix the roadways, it is now joining forces with North Las Vegas for what’s being called the “Lake Mead Boulevard Project.”

From new pavement to sidewalk ramps, additional bike lanes and safety upgrades, pedestrian crossings and lighting, those who live nearby say they are ready for the much-needed improvements.

“It’s about time,” local, Bruce Conner shared. “We need more lights and the streets are bad around here too with it being so close to the freeway; Everyone is always speeding.”

Work is set to begin later this year and will cover Lake Mead Boulevard from Simmons Street to Losee Road.

Local resident, Tiffany Holly who often feels like her side of town is overlooked, says she is pleased to hear these new developments are in the works.

“Our roads are in need of repair and we need better lighting,” Holly shared.

Construction is expected to take up to 18 months to complete. There will be a community meeting for the project on Wednesday, April 10 at 5:30 p.m. at the Doolittle Community Center.
