LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Kamala Harris wrapped up her second visit to Las Vegas since she became the Democratic presidential candidate, focusing on multiple policy issues.
Harris’s speech was at the Expo at World Market Center on Sunday night and lasted for nearly 30 minutes.
According to her campaign, Harris spoke In front of approximately 7,500 people. She presented her case for rebuilding America’s middle class and sought to separate herself from her opponent Republican Donald J. Trump.
“I will always put the middle class and working families first. I will never forget where I come from,” Harris said.
Some of the policies she discussed on Sunday included:
- Building three million new homes across the United States and giving first-time homebuyers a $25,000 down payment assistance.
- Expanding the child tax credit for families, offering them at least $6,000 for the first year of a child’s life.
- Providing small business owners a $50,000 tax deduction to get started.
Harris did not clearly state how she planned to pay for those initiatives.
The current vice president also criticized Trump’s rhetoric on immigration, while saying she has an immigration plan that includes securing the border and creating pathways for citizenship.
“He continues to fan the flames of fear and division. Look we need a president who cares more about solving problems than playing political games, and demeaning people full-time,” Harris said.
Besides discussing her policies and lambasting former President Trump, Harris also asked the audience to send prayers to the victims of Hurricane Helene.
“More than 3,300 federal personnel have been mobilized. We are deploying food water and generators, and working to restore water and power,” Harris said.
Harris is expected to return to Las Vegas on Oct. 10 to participate in a town hall that will be hosted by Univision.
