LAS VEGAS (KLAS) —  Two teens accused of murdering a retired police officer as part of a deadly crime spree will go to trial in November.

A Clark County District Court judge scheduled a jury trial for Jesus Ayala, 19, and Jzamir Keys, 18, during a court appearance Tuesday morning.

Both teens are charged with intentionally mowing down two bicyclists, including retired California police chief Andy Probst, 64, who died, and other crimes on Aug. 14, 2023.

Video is a key piece of evidence in the case as two bicyclists, including Probst, appear to have been intentionally hit in separate locations in the northwest valley. The other bicyclist survived.

Clark County District Court Judge Christy Craig found Ayala competent to stand trial on Feb. 28 after an evaluation at a mental health facility.

Both teens were in custody Tuesday morning. Keys asked Clark County District Court Judge Jacqueline Bluth if he could receive discovery for his case, meaning material like evidence and reports.

Clark County Chief Deputy District Attorney John Giordani told Bluth that Probst’s widow wants to be present for the trial.

Bluth set a status check for June 17.

Ayala is also charged in a separate attempted murder case. A jury trial is scheduled for Sept. 23.
