LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Israeli Americans gathered in Las Vegas to mark the first anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attack at a festival.
The Las Vegas Chapter of the Israeli American Council (IAC) held the ceremony Sunday evening at Las Vegas City Hall with the message “Remembering the Darkness, Rising with Hope.”
The attack has been described as the worst single-day murder of Jews since the Holocaust. Nevada State Representative Susie Lee shared her stance on the attacks.
“There should be no doubt, we as a nation must continue to help Israel bring home the hostages and defeat the terrorists who threaten them,” Lee told the crowd.
Las Vegas City Councilwoman Victoria Seaman also shared some words.
“We reflect on the individuals whose lives were lost. The families shattered, and the impact that this senseless act of violence has had on all of us.”
Eitan Gonen also spoke about his daughter Romi who is being held hostage by Hamas in Gaza.
“She’s been fighting for her life, for herself, and for the other hostages. We as her family have been fighting for her. That’s why I’m here because no parent should have to experience the nightmare we the hostages’ families are going through,” Gonen said.
The ceremony started at 7 p.m. on Sunday with nearly 100 people in attendance.
