LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Impairment is suspected in a crash that left one person dead in the east Las Vegas valley on Saturday, according to police.

On Sunday around midnight, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of a vehicle that struck a person on east Charleston Boulevard, just east of the intersection with 10th Street.

According to police, evidence and witness statements indicated that a Toyota Camry was traveling eastbound on Charleston Boulevard when it hit a person who was walking outside of a crosswalk. The crash occurred when the front right of the Toyota struck the right side of the individual, LVMPD said.

Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene, but despite all life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead on site, police said. The victim was identified as a 51-year-old from Las Vegas.

According to the police report, the driver, identified as Nicholas Pinal, 23, showed signs of impairment and was arrested on DUI-related charges.

The pedestrian’s death marks the 126th traffic-related fatality in the LVMPD’s jurisdiction for 2024. The crash is currently still under investigation by the LVMPD Collision Investigation Section.
