Part of Reykjavík’s West Town since 2022, expansion to Barónsstíg 6 more recent, Hygge is led by baker Þórey Lovísa Sigurmundsdóttir and sister Guðrún Klara Sigurðardóttir with a resultant chic environment, exceptional Viennoiserie and plenty of room to sit down for a while.

Fully dubbed “Hygge Coffee & Micro Bakery,” the Danish word for a comfortable time surrounded by loved ones befitting such a concept, guests descend stairs to find ten daily Pastries including a faultless Kardemummabullar wound tight but fluffy with robust aromatics.

Predictably fond of good local Butter, a theme common across Iceland, Hygge’s laminated Pastries are technique-focused but not entirely “classic” as the Almond Croissant uses Cream as opposed to Frangipane for levity while both the Pistachio Croissant and “Cinnamon Caramel Monkey Muffin” take on a unique shape while preserving taste as well as texture.
