LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Henderson community has waited three years for a fix to their 40-year-old cracked water main system and following a Monday night vote they will have to wait a little longer for a repair.

The problem underneath Somerset Park, located near Sunset Road and Boulder Highway, has caused parking issues, water outages, and headaches for tenants since 2021. City staff notified residents four weeks ago if their HOA did not fix the issue in two weeks their neighborhood might be condemned.

Members of the Henderson neighborhood drove across town to a meeting Monday at the offices of CAMCO, a HOA management company, to make their voices heard and learn what options the community had.

The Somerset Park HOA presented around three options to take the next steps to save the neighborhood. However, pressure from city officials to have permits on file for the total replacement of Sept. 10 appeared to accelerate their decision to accept a city proposal.

The City of Henderson’s proposal would put the initial repair costs, between $400,000 to $600,000, on the city with the neighborhood paying back the work through taxes equating to $7,000 per unit for under $300 per month, however, Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero said the specifics of a tax lien have not been finalized.

The lowest bid reviewed during the Monday HOA meeting was $1.4 million which city staff denied, according to a CAMCO statement provided via email to 8 News Now.

“The city told the board they will not accept the repair to the plumbing as a solution so the bids CAMCO received for repairs cannot be considered,” a CAMCO spokesperson wrote. “The city would not give the association an extension to review more bids, and the association has to comply with the September 10 deadline to have permits on file for total replacement.”

The process will now continue under the city’s deadline but will need final approval on a bid for the repair. CAMCO is expected to present its decision to the City of Henderson tomorrow.
