A popular mochi doughnut destination, Gäbi Boutique, is closing both of its locations permanently just weeks after reopening with a new menu.
Two years ago, the Chinatown cafe Gäbi Coffee & Bakery launched a doughnut spin-off called Gäbi Boutique in Henderson. The doughnut shop quickly earned a following for its delicately decorated mochi doughnuts, glazed buns filled with fresh cream, and savory doughnut breakfast sandwiches. During July and August, Gäbi Boutique at 136 North Stephanie Street Suite 130 and at 2340 Via Inspirada temporarily closed to overhaul its menus.
When the shops reopened on September 6, gone were doughnuts iced and filled with bold purple ube cream, topped with crackly crème brûlée, or enrobed in toasted lemon meringue. The new menu at the Boutiques had gone all in on Korean kkwabaegi twist doughnuts, including sweet varieties glazed in rainbow colors and piped with flavored creams like blueberry cream cheese or tiramisu. The savory options were more bold — doughnut twists serving as a foundation for basil cream and tomato slices or coleslaw and chipotle chicken.
As of today, both doughnut shops are closing permanently. The company’s original spot, Gäbi Coffee & Bakery on Spring Mountain Road, remains open with its atrium-like seating areas and signature wooden door.
On September 13, both doughnut shops cut back their weekend hours, closing two hours earlier. And on Wednesday, October 2, Gäbi Boutique posted on Instagram stating: “After 2 years of serving up our donuts and sharing special moments with all of you, we’ve made the tough decision to close both locations of Gabi Boutique permanently.”
Gäbi Boutique and Gorae Management, the company that owns and operates Gäbi, did not respond to a request for comment on the sudden closure.
