LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Normal operations have resumed at Galleria Mall after a fight that led to false rumors of an active shooter Saturday.

The initial report came to Henderson Police at approximately 12 p.m. It indicated an “unknown problem” and possibly an active shooter at the Galleria Mall located in the 300 block of Sunset Road.

Police were dispatched to the mall, and preliminary investigations showed that a fight broke out when a loss prevention officer attempted to detain an individual suspected of shoplifting. The suspect fled the scene but was later apprehended at a nearby business.

Law enforcement officials said a firearm was recovered during the investigation but that it had not been fired during the incident.

Both the suspect and the loss prevention officer sustained injuries during the incident and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The suspect, later identified by Henderson police as Malik Horton, 20, faces charges of battery with substantial bodily harm, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary while in possession of a firearm, resisting arrest, and attempted robbery with a deadly weapon.

Officials confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the community, and the Galleria Mall has since resumed normal operations.
