LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A 20-year-old and a 22-year-old are dead following a crash in the northeast Las Vegas valley, Sunday.
Around 1 a.m. on Oct. 13, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of east Lake Mead Boulevard and north Sloan Lane.
Police said, based on evidence at the scene and witness statements, a 2003 Mercedes Benz was traveling at a high rate of speed west on Lake Mead Boulevard, and a 1991 Honda Prelude was traveling east on Lake Mead Boulevard.
According to LVMPD, the crash occurred when the Mercedes hit the center median of the intersection, causing it to rotate counterclockwise. The Mercedes then crossed the center line and entered the Honda’s path, which hit the passenger side of the Mercedes.
Emergency medical services were called, but both drivers—a 20-year-old man in the Mercedes and a 22-year-old man in the Honda—were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
This crash is still under investigation.
LVMPD marks this crash as the 120th and 121st traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction for 2024.
