LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Fantastic Indoor Swap Meet is expanding. Open for over 35 years, the building which takes up three acres, sits on a nearly 16-acre property in the central Las Vegas valley.
Owner, Doug Kays said due to its growing demand over the years, they’ve already taken steps with the city to extend their swap meet to their parking lot area.
“We’ve been full inside for decades and we don’t have space for people to expand their business dreams, so we petitioned the city to use the outdoor parking lot for an outdoor market,” Kays shared.
While this expansion will only happen once a month for now, it will allow ‘Fantastic’ to feature food trucks on their lot along with providing more merchandise apparel for customers. It’s a perfect start to the fall season.
“We have always been about small businesses and we’ve gotten to the point where we can’t grow or make more space available inside the building so we have to take it outside to give more people the opportunity to be a part of this environment,” Kays added.
Longtime customer, Diana Hewitt is beyond thrilled, sharing that ‘Fantastic’ has always been a go-to spot for her on the weekends.
“The more the merrier. They have everything now so I can’t wait to see what more they can do. There’s so much to look at. You could come here 100 times and then come back, and you’d still find something you hadn’t seen before,” Hewitt shared.
Local vendor, David Wilson of Maui Christmas says he has no problem with taking his booth outdoors, sharing that he thinks it will be beneficial in the long run for locals and tourists around.
“I used to set up outside in the Maui swap meet and it was a different atmosphere. It gives people something different, so I think it’s a terrific idea,” Wilson said.
A final review of the plan will take place on Oct. 16 by the City Council and this expansion will start as soon as this month…with Saturday, September, 28th being their first day open outdoors.
Currently, “Fantastic Indoor Swap Meet” has 220 vendors with 525 booths inside.
