LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Impairment is suspected in a crash that killed a Las Vegas man early Sunday morning, police said.

The collision occurred Sunday morning, around 3:30 a.m., near Decatur Boulevard and Alta Drive in west Las Vegas. There, investigators say a sedan was traveling at a high speed and struck a 58-year-old man from Las Vegas who was walking in a crosswalk. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

After initially fleeing the scene, police said the driver eventually returned and showed “several signs of impairment.” He was identified by police as Maurice Washington, 45, of Las Vegas. Washington was arrested and faces charges related to driving under the influence and hit-and-run.
