LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A 74-year-old Las Vegan is recovering from a Monday hit-and-run crash that left witnesses saying her survival was a miracle.
Felicita Sola, 74, was struck by a vehicle in broad daylight on Monday while crossing the street at the intersection of Vegas Valley and Mountain Vista Street. Sola, who lives a few blocks away, is a retired casino porter who worked for 30 years on the Las Vegas Strip. She said she was extremely shaken up after the collision.
“She was crossing the street with a walker, and the driver turned right,” said Julia Sandoval, a family friend of Sola’s. “I don’t know how he didn’t see her.”
Sola was taken to an area hospital, where she was later released. She has heavy bruising and more, according to Sandoval.
“They say she has a broken bone in her chest and is bleeding from the inside, and she also has a cut on her head on the right side,” Sandoval added.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officials told Sola they would review the intersection’s camera footage. The driver, however, has yet to be found. Witnesses said it was a miracle she survived the collision.
“We came around the corner and saw the driver get out of the car and try to help the lady up, but once she was standing, he then sped off,” said Matthew Garrison, who witnessed the incident. “We heard the impact, and it sounded like he hit her pretty hard.”
