LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Las Vegas residents frantically reported to 911 dispatchers they heard voices from within the flames of a deadly home fire and pleaded for Clark County Fire crews to hurry—they didn’t know if their home was next.
8 News Now obtained new 911 audio from witnesses of a deadly house fire which left four people dead, and two injured. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Clark County fire investigators have said it was likely started accidentally.
“What is on fire,” a 911 dispatcher asked.
“The whole house,” the caller said. “A person is screaming on the inside. We’re hearing someone really shout too.”
Residents in the southwest Las Vegas valley neighborhood previously told 8 News Now they saw one of the victims of the fire, a mother who had escaped with a child by jumping from the third floor, banging on their doors, and yelling for help.
Another caller told 911 dispatchers she was worried about the other homes on either side of the flames, which fire crews said were too dangerous for them to reach the third floor.
“You need to hurry,” the caller said. “We have two homes on fire, the next house will be my house.”
Clark County Fire Chief John Steinbeck told members of the media the neighboring homes were damaged by the fire, but the flames did not spread to other structures. The damaged home was torn down by crews due to the unstable nature of the building and the high winds the following day.
The Clark County Coroner’s Office identified the four victims in the deadly house fire as Anaya Adem, 7; Aaliyah Adem, 6; Ibrahim Adem, 48; and Abdusalem Adem, 43. The nearby school where the Adem girls attended released a statement offering counseling for students affected by the tragedy.
The Adem family held a memorial at Central Christian Church on Thursday morning. A GoFundMe was created to help the family pay for costs sustained by their loss.
