LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — After more than a year of public engagement and planning, the City of Las Vegas is about to reveal its final draft of its plans for Kyle Canyon and is asking for the public’s input one last time before the planning commission meeting next month.

“I hope they make this community sustainable,” Kyle Canyon Resident, Francine Terrell shared with 8 News Now.

Terrell like so many northwest valley residents, is excited for more development in the area.

The City of Las Vegas plans to expand Kyle Canyon as part of its 2050 Master Plan Project. Due to the growing number of homes being built, the need for more amenities is there.

“I would like to see more restaurants and places to shop. Also, more parks for people to walk around and for kids to play in,” Terrell added. “I also heard that we may get a gas station nearby. The closest one right now is at the Skye Canyon Shopping Center.”

Other residents in the area say, education is top of mind for them.

“A school would be our number one request. We will probably have a kid at some point in the near future so looking at the quality of schools around. We would want to see closer options,” Chris Setzer shared with 8 News Now.

The City of Las Vegas is also looking at creating employment centers and building a school, bus stops, and routes for better transportation to and from the area.

The Kyle Canyon Special Area Plan will be discussed at the city’s Planning Commission meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 14. If approved, then the City Council will vote on the plan in February.
