LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The east Las Vegas valley community came together Friday to celebrate Cinco De Mayo at Clark County’s ninth annual holiday celebration.

Hundreds gathered at Robert E. Price Park near Lake Mead Boulevard and Nellis Boulevard for food, fun, and live performances. The event, which was free and open to the public, included piñata bashing, boxing, bounce houses, and a rock-climbing wall.

Mariachi bands, folkloric dancers, and a DJ were on hand for performances.

Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick, who has hosted the event for the past nine years, said it honors Cinco De Mayo’s historical significance.

“I think it’s very important because it does help out a lot of families,” said Melissa Adame, a festival attendee. “To get their kids out here and interact and have fun.”

Rep. Steven Horsford, D-Nev., said the community celebration was culturally significant and important.

“It’s a community event, it’s a celebration of Cinco de Mayo,” Horsford said. “It’s also a celebration of culture, of history, bringing out the entire family.”

Free food was also offered to attendees. Vendors were also present to provide resources for families and community members.
