LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Free F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix tickets landed several Clark County District School employees in hot water last year, according to records 8 News Now obtained.
Through a public records request, 8 News Now learned CCSD was given 60 Formula One tickets last year for the inaugural race and three employees were investigated.
CCSD declined to provide copies of its investigations, but a source who wished to remain anonymous shared one of them with 8 News Now.
It detailed how a transportation employee was accused of defrauding the district of F1 tickets.
The employee’s name isn’t being published since they weren’t charged with a crime and it isn’t clear if they were fired.
The report, dated Jan. 3, 2024, showed former CCSD transportation director Jennifer Vobis suspended the employee without pay and recommended their dismissal.
The allegations against the employee: incompetence, inadequate work performance, dishonesty, failure to follow the rules and regulations of the district, and violation of the terms of the appropriate negotiated agreements.
This all started on Nov. 12, 2023, when CCSD invited employees to the inaugural F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
According to the document, the employee was given a $2,500 ticket but someone impersonating them showed up to the race on Nov. 18.
CCSD also accused the employee of engaging in unprofessional conduct, fraud, and dishonesty.
Records showed the employee lied when initially questioned by investigators about the tickets.
The Clark County School District sent 8 News Now a statement regarding the investigation:
“The District investigates and disciplines employee policy violations according to negotiated agreements with its bargaining units and does not comment on individual personnel matters.”
