LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A Henderson couple has transformed their home into a holiday wonderland, calling it an opportunity to give back after the ultimate second chance.

It’s the most wonderful time of year, and the ‘Candy Cane House’ is both merry and magical.

“It’s so amazing,” Shana Vanlanker said of her visit.

The out-of-this-world experience was created by Victor Cardenas and Joey Cardona, located at 366 S. Milan Street, near Racetrack Road and Boulder Highway.

It features 87 themed Christmas trees, hot chocolate, treats, and over 60,000 lights.

“We just want to spread the love,” Cardenas said of the impressive display. “And help others in any way we can.”

Cardenas told 8 News Now his family’s labor of love started from what he called a Christmas miracle.

Seven years ago, Cardenas said his husband, Joey, was diagnosed with cancer and given two months to live.

They didn’t know what to do, so he said they settled on making their holiday season more special.

“One day I woke up and I said, ‘Hey it’s Christmas, what do you want to do?'” Cardenas recalled. “He goes, ‘I want more trees.”‘

Later, Cardona went into remission, so the two decided to build off their new tree tradition, eventually welcoming neighbors inside to see the decorations.

That routine eventually grew to them welcoming the entire community.

“We got a second chance as a family,” Cardenas said. “And we want to spread that same cheer.”

They told 8 News Now they are also making sure that cheer reaches those who need it most.

Candy Cane House attendees are asked to bring donations or hygiene products for Hopelink of Southern Nevada, a non-profit that helps people experiencing homelessness.

“Tampons, razors, conditioners, lotions,” Cardenas suggested donation options. “Anything that helps you have a good and healthy life.”

The gathering is full of glitter, lights, and joy throughout December and is a true testament to Southern Nevada’s spirit.

“It’s a lot of work that goes into this,” Cardenas concluded. “But that’s the everlasting evolution.”
