LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Break dancing is growing in popularity with more and more dancers and hip-hop artists getting involved in the sport.

The recent Summer Olympic Games in Paris boosted its popularity.

“Yeah, thanks to the Olympics, we got a lot of sponsorship,” Japan’s Ono Hiroto who competed in the 2024 games said. “So many breakers could live just because by breaking.”

That popularity didn’t continue once the games concluded.

“After the Olympics, the sponsors left,” Hiroto said.

A handful of Olympians were in Las Vegas to showcase their skills and mentor young Breakers, who came from all over the west to compete in the ‘Skillz Talk’ event at the Virgin resort.

About 200 ‘b-boys and b-girls’ showed up. Las Vegas is one of the hot spots for breakers.

“We just have a real welcoming community, our hip-hop community is so loved,” Denvir Macaraeg Skillz Talk event organizer said.

Breaking was born in the United States and made its debut at the Olympic Games in Paris but won’t be part of the lineup in the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles.

However, the World DanceSport Federation is working to include breaking in the 2032 Summer Olympics in Brisbane, Australia.
