LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A Blue Nose Pitbull is recovering after being dumped on the side of the road. It happened in the Historic Westside Las Vegas area near Washington Avenue and MLK Boulevard.
Resources for Rescues organization was alerted to the dog in distress and shared that he could barely move and was very overheated and dehydrated. The organization also shared that the dog’s skin was “inflamed and blistered, hardened, and callused. His feet raw and swollen.”
Then the Vegas Pet Rescue Project stepped in and took the dog to the hospital for an evaluation.
Doctors told the Vegas Pet Rescue Project that the dog had mange and skin infections and due to scar tissue buildup in his ear, it is unknown whether his hearing will return.
While the backstory on how the dog ended up on the streets is still unclear, it was discovered that he had some identification.
“They were able to discover that he had been chipped. From there, we can backtrack, where he came from, where he went,” Lindsey Pinapfel Vegas Pet Rescue Project volunteer said. “Somebody may have not known that he was missing. Maybe he got out and got into somebody else’s care.”
Records provided by The Animal Foundation show that Cole, was previously named Syliz Ray and had been adopted out twice while at the shelter. He was first adopted in 2020, then returned and was adopted back out in 2021.

“If you adopt an animal from The Animal Foundation, you may have to wait a little bit, but you are able to surrender that animal back to their facility. You can also reach out to a number of rescues here in Las Vegas that would be able to take the animal in,” Pinapfel added.
Now, nearly four years later the question remains how did the dog end up on the side of a road?
“We’re going to reach out to Animal Protective Services to try to track down that information as far as figuring out who was the last person to adopt him,” Pinapfel told 8 News Now.
