Pat Russell’s recent letter included some eye-popping numbers: “82.7 percent or 1.245 million ballots were not used, at a cost of approximately $3 per ballot. More than $3.7 million of taxpayer money wasted.” Instead of mailing all registered voters a ballot, I suggest mailing a postcard to all registered voters. The postcard would have three options.
1. Check the box if you would like a mail in ballot and return postage paid. 2. List a phone number a voter could call to request a mail-in ballot. 3. List a website or email address where the voter could request a mail-in ballot. This might cost 61 cents compared to $3, a savings of $2.39 cents per mailing. Total savings: $2.9 million.
