Welcome to This Week in Chinatown!

Hello Chinatown lovers! This week feels more like spring than December — sunny skies and 70s are back, perfect for exploring every corner of Spring Mountain Road. We’ve got a little bit of everything: a huge safety win with the new pedestrian crosswalk finishing early, Chinatown’s first revolving A.Y.C.E. hotpot, Scavenger Hunt, exciting limited-time experiences (shrunken heads, anyone?), and nonstop live music and holiday fun. Whether you’re here for the food, the vibes, or the community, there’s never been a better week to dive in.

Breaking News

Pedestrian Crosswalk Victory Near Arville – Finished THIS Thursday!

Great news for everyone who walks, drives, or just wants to survive Spring Mountain Road: the long-awaited pedestrian crosswalk project near Arville is wrapping up THIS THURSDAY, December 11 — weeks ahead of schedule! Originally slated to drag into late December, Clark County Public Works hit the gas and delivered early, just in time for the holiday rush. This new signalized crossing will make it dramatically safer to get between the north and south sides of the corridor. A massive win for pedestrians, drivers, and every business in the area. Special shout-out and huge thanks to Commissioner Justin Jones for championing the project and pushing hard to get it prioritized and finished fast. This one’s for the community!

Final Curtain Call?  1004 Café Appears Closed in Kangnam Square

We are sad to report the apparent closure of 1004 Café, the beloved Korean K-pop coffee spot in Kangnam Square on Jones Blvd, just a block off Spring Mountain Road. Sources indicate a gradual wind-down: the kitchen shuttered months ago, and now furnishings are gone. Our recent check found no signage on the door and unanswered calls. The iconic white building, its columns flanked by its logo, now sits eerily quiet.

This prime location has cycled through multiple concepts over the years — a revolving door familiar to Chinatown regulars. With Chinatown booming, we’re optimistic a big-name operator will step in to anchor the center and pull crowds from Spring Mountain. We’ll keep watch on leasing updates and report back. What do you hope fills the space?

Coming Soon: Chinatown’s Scene Heats Up

A vibrant gateway to what’s next — Chinatown Vegas prepares to unveil its newest additions.

📢 Chinatown’s First Revolving A.Y.C.E. Hotpot!

A revolutionary new dining concept is officially rolling into Chinatown, promising to put a thrilling new spin on the traditional hotpot experience! Keep an eye out for Shabu Rokka Premium Revolving A.Y.C.E. Hotpot, which is gearing up to be the neighborhood’s very first All-You-Can-Eat hotpot spot to feature a conveyor belt system.

A New Chapter for the Culinary Conveyor

For years, Sapporo Revolving Sushi has delighted Vegas diners by pioneering the high-tech conveyor belt system for sushi, and now, the same innovative spirit is being applied to hotpot. Shabu Rokka is another venture from the dynamic Sapporo Group Management, which also operates beloved local staples like Master Kim’s Korean BBQ.

The concept takes the popular Japanese shabu-shabu style and streamlines the A.Y.C.E. ordering process. Instead of waiting for platters, you can expect an endless parade of fresh, high-quality ingredients—thinly sliced premium meats, crisp vegetables, fresh noodles, and savory seafood—to circulate past your table. Simply grab what you want and drop it into your personalized pot of simmering broth.

A new hotpot experience is coming! The banner for Shabu Rokka, a “Premium Revolving A.Y.C.E. Hotpot” operated by Sapporo Group Management, is prominently displayed on the storefront. Get ready for all-you-can-eat deliciousness!

Prime Location

In news that will make navigating the local dining scene even easier, Shabu Rokka will be located right next door to its sibling concept, the Spring Mountain location of Sapporo Revolving Sushi at 4671 Spring Mountain Road. This places the new eatery directly in the heart of Chinatown’s bustling culinary center, making it the perfect spot for a quick, high-energy lunch or a fun group dinner.

While an official grand opening date is still pending, the prominent “Coming Soon” signage indicates that construction is wrapping up and Shabu Rokka is preparing to launch. Prepare to dive in headfirst to this fun, fast-paced, and flavor-packed addition!

XYZ Square at 4425 Spring Mountain: The Leading Opportunity to Get Into Chinatown is Heating Up!

The energy on Spring Mountain Road is always vibrant, but all eyes are now turning toward the XYZ Square at 4425 Spring Mountain Road. This multi-building campus, which readers may recognize as the site of a long-standing Wells Fargo branch, is gearing up for a major transformation that will solidify it as a crucial asset and a leading opportunity within the heart of Chinatown.

XYZ Square is not just another property—it is a prime, infill location with over 460 feet of frontage right on Spring Mountain Road, sitting at a busy signalized intersection. Located just 1.5 miles west of the famed Las Vegas Strip, this center is perfectly positioned to capture both the loyal local base and the constant stream of tourists attracted to our world-class dining and retail district.

A New Chapter for the Community:

The center is undergoing significant facade and interior renovations starting in 2026, marking a new chapter for the complex.

  • New Retail and Dining: The renovations will introduce exciting new ground-floor retail spaces and an anchor food concept(s), ensuring a fresh flow of daily patrons.

  • Premium Office Space: With approximately 17,425 SF of renovated office space available, this is the perfect opportunity for professional services (like the existing Sang Injury Law) to secure a prestigious address. Available suites, which include fully built-out options from 1,558 SF up to a full floorplate of over 13,000 SF, boast premium amenities.

  • Unmatched Amenities: Tenants and visitors will benefit from rare features in Chinatown, including underground and covered parking, private suite balconies, and even Strip views from the upper floors.

XYZ Square is more than just commercial space; it is a chance to be part of the future of Chinatown. By securing a space now, you are positioning your business at the nexus of culture, commerce, and convenience in Las Vegas’s most dynamic neighborhood.

The time to invest in the heart of Chinatown is now, and XYZ Square is the place to do it.

📅 Looking Back: The Long-Awaited Grand Opening of 85°C Bakery Cafe! 🥖☕

Who can forget the buzz? This week in Chinatown, we’re flashing back to a truly landmark moment for the Shanghai Plaza and our entire Spring Mountain Corridor: the Grand Opening of 85°C Bakery Cafe on December 6, 2019!

The Anticipation Was Real

For months, the impending arrival of the world-famous Taiwanese import, 85°C Bakery Cafe, was the talk of the town. Known internationally for its signature Sea Salt Coffee and the sheer variety of its fresh, affordable breads, cakes, and pastries, this was set to be Nevada’s very first location. The excitement in the community was palpable, with many locals already fans from visiting locations in California and other states.

Line of people waiting under a red 85°C Bakery Cafe tent at the grand opening event in Shanghai Plaza, Las Vegas Chinatown.

Grand opening excitement at 85°C Bakery Cafe in Shanghai Plaza, December 6, 2019

A Day to Remember 🎊

As our original post captured, the opening day drew a massive, lively crowd! Long lines snaked through the Shanghai Plaza courtyard, filled with eager customers ready to finally taste the treats they had heard so much about. Under the iconic red “Sweeten Your Life” tent, staff worked tirelessly to handle the rush and provide promotions to mark the festive occasion. The successful launch cemented Shanghai Plaza’s status as a key culinary hub and signaled the continued, vibrant growth of Las Vegas Chinatown.

Do you remember what you bought that day? Was it the Taro Swirl or the Marble Taro? The brioche or the famous Egg Tart? Share your memories!

Chinatown Gripes (…with a rare Non-Gripe!)

Potholes + 45 mph Speed Limit = Pain

Spring Mountain’s cratered lanes are still destroying suspensions while drivers fly by at 45 mph like it’s the Autobahn.

Yet Another Crash! 🚨

It happened again. This week, the bottleneck at Spring Mountain Road and Stober Blvd became the site of yet another traffic incident. While details are still being investigated, the pattern is tragically familiar: an accident causing major disruption right where our busiest plazas meet.

Emergency crews were again forced to respond rapidly to clear the scene and attend to potential injuries, causing significant slowdowns and proving that this intersection remains a high-risk flashpoint, particularly during peak evening hours.

The Real Cause: Speeding at 45 MPH

The recurring crashes are a clear symptom of a systemic problem: the 45 MPH speed limit is completely out of place for a pedestrian and commerce-heavy corridor like Chinatown. That high speed encourages aggressive driving, hurried lane changes, and significantly reduces a driver’s reaction time to the sudden stops and turns required in this vibrant area.

The frequent accidents are a serious failure of safety planning. We need the governing body responsible for Spring Mountain Road to conduct an urgent traffic study and implement the change that the community knows is necessary: a reduction of the speed limit to 35 MPH.

We are tired of seeing emergency lights flashing through our district. It’s time to prioritize the safety of our shoppers and residents over maximizing through-traffic speed.

The Left-Turn Hunger Games

Trying to turn left across six lanes of traffic still takes nerves of steel.

Pedestrian Crosswalk Near Arville – THE NON-GRIPE!

Finishing THIS Thursday (Dec 11) — weeks early! Huge thanks to Commissioner Justin Jones for pushing it through!
