📜 Looking Back

A look back at "vintage" Chinatown

A look back at the time of Las Vegas Chinatown

A Milestone for Chinatown’s History

Let’s rewind to October 2022, the launch of our very first “This Week in Chinatown,” when the neighborhood’s growth was just beginning to accelerate. The weather was superb—crisp mornings, strong midday sun, and blooming flowers—setting a perfect stage for our community’s vibrancy. Even then, construction and remodeling were rampant, signaling the fast-paced evolution we see today.

Nightmare on Spring Mountain: The Sand Dollar Lounge transformed into America’s cleanest dive bar and a haunted paradise, featured on Las Vegas Morning Blend, kicking off our event coverage.

The Center at Spring Mountain: Partage, a modern French fine dining restaurant, and its wine-centric shop, Grand Cru, were on track to open on November 15, 2022, featuring an immersive French wine experience.

K Spa Debut: XY Foot remodeled into K Spa at the western end of The Center at Spring Mountain, under the same ownership.

Safety Concerns: Circle K at Spring Mountain and Arville implemented a no-backpack rule and single-student entry after a snack theft, a sign of growing challenges.

Ramen Kyara: The former Bubble Shave Ice space at 4810 Spring Mountain Rd was set for Ramen Kyara’s grand opening on November 7, 2022.

Lilly’s Kitchen Transition: The abrupt closure of Lilly’s Kitchen at Spring Mountain and Decatur hinted at a future Xiao Mian Guan noodle restaurant. ( Note: Still waiting!)

Gimik Republik Rumors: The closure of Gimik Republik in June 2021 sparked rumors of a re-opening.

Irene’s to Jackpot Joanie’s: Irene’s at Spring Mountain and Lindell was demolished for a Jackpot Joanie’s conversion.

Mountain View Plaza: China Fresh Tea opened in the former Icy Juicy space, offering a retro-style Chinese tea revolution, while a “Nice Day Spa” sign appeared next to Passion Hookah Lounge.

Reflect on how far we’ve come and share your memories of Chinatown’s early days with #ChinatownVegas!

🚦 Chinatown Gripes

A Desperate Demand to Lower the Speed Limit on Spring Mountain Road

Spring Mountain Road between Jones and Valley View has become a deadly hazard, with high vehicle speeds and reckless electric scooters turning Chinatown’s main strip into a danger zone. For over a decade, Chinatownvegas.com and our readers have relentlessly demanded a 35 MPH speed limit to protect pedestrians, tourists, and businesses. Instead of progress, the crisis has worsened, with a surge of recent incidents piling onto an already tragic toll.

This week alone, two crashes rocked Spring Mountain Road. On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, a multi-vehicle collision at Spring Mountain Road and Stober Boulevard injured several people, requiring hospital transport and snarling traffic, as reported in local news.

The next day, Wednesday, June 18, 2025, another crash occurred before Arville Street blocked right lanes, heightening fears of more injuries, per RTC Southern Nevada. These follow two critical motorcycle accidents near Spring Mountain and Decatur on June 10, 2025, which shook our community.

Adding to the chaos, a speeding electric scooter blindsided pedestrians at a Chinatown intersection last month, leaving one with severe bruising and nearly sending the teenage rider into oncoming traffic, as reported by Las Vegas Weekly on June 19, 2025.

This is not a new battle. The road’s grim history includes the fatal crash on September 17, 2021, west of Decatur Boulevard, reported by KSNV, which claimed a life, and the horrific bus stop crash on September 13, 2012, east of Decatur, reported by the Las Vegas Sun, which took four lives. These tragedies, combined with the recent wave of vehicle and scooter incidents, form an undeniable pattern of peril that demands immediate action.

We recognize that changing speed limits involves studies and bureaucracy, but the rising injuries and near-fatalities cannot wait. Chinatown’s soaring pedestrian and vehicle traffic, driven by its status as a tourist and community hub, makes a 35 MPH speed limit an urgent necessity. An emergency regulation or expedited process is critical to curb this chaos, including the growing threat of speeding scooters alongside vehicles.

The safety of our residents, visitors, and businesses is at stake. Spring Mountain Road’s current speed limit, worsened by reckless scooter use, is a lethal risk that has gone unchecked for far too long.

Lowering the speed limit to 35 MPH is an overdue emergency measure to save lives.

Share your demand for safer streets with #ChinatownVegas or email info@chinatownvegas.com. Join us in forcing change to make Spring Mountain Road safe for all!
