LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man accused of throwing a dog into a dumpster told police he became frustrated with the animal and “wanted to teach him a lesson,” according to documents the 8 News Now Investigators obtained Monday.
Alexis Flores, 30, faces three counts of an animal-abuse-related charge.
Animal Protection Services responded to the call about an animal abuse incident around 9 a.m. Monday, April 14, at the 5500 block of Sheila Avenue, near Jones Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue. Video shows a man, later identified as Flores, grabbing the small dog by the neck and “forcefully” throwing it into the dumpster, investigators said.
Metro police arrested Flores on Thursday. Police said they talked to hundreds of people, including a neighbor who recognized Flores’ SUV. A family member of Flores later said they believed the dog was his and the person in the video was Flores, documents said.
Flores spoke to police, who said that on Monday, April 14, Marley ran away, leading to a 45-minute search to find him. During the search, Flores “fell to the ground… which made him angry.”
Flores also said the dog’s behavior upsets a child in his household, saying, “Marley is so annoying and frustrating that he decided to teach him a lesson,” documents said.
“Alexis stated he was so annoyed with ‘Marley’ because he nibbed [sic] his daughter, or attempted to bite her and he wanted to teach him a lesson,” police said. “Alexis stated he knew he ‘[expletive] up’ and he shouldn’t have done that. He admitted that his mindset was not to kill ‘Marley’ but understands that he could’ve died.”
A neighbor found the dog on Tuesday, April 15, 8 News Now reported that day. The dog was recovering and was “doing fine,” police said Wednesday.
Flores posted bond and was due to return to court in June.
