LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Metro police ordered protesters in the east Las Vegas valley to disperse Monday night after people were throwing rocks and bottles at officers, according to police.

8 News Now was on the scene as several hundred protestors gathered near Charleston and Lamb boulevards holding Mexican flags as well as a parade of cars driving by in support.

On Monday evening police learned of a possible protest in the area and as protesters began to arrive police talked to them and provided them “protest safety guidance,” police said.

Several hundred protestors were seen Monday evening near Charleston and Lamb boulevards holding Mexican flags as well as a parade of cars in support.

As the protest went on, vehicles were seen driving “erratically” in a parking lot adjacent to the intersection and police said that people began to “seize the intersection,” throw bottles and rocks at officers and one person pointed a firearm at officers, according to police.

Metro police and SWAT were seen at the protest and around 10:40 p.m. police were heard telling protesters to disperse since the protest was now an “unlawful gathering,” police said.

Police said several arrests were made after the dispersal order was made.

Charleston Boulevard was closed between Lamb Boulevard and Arden Street and police were seen directing traffic.

It is unknown at this time whether the protest was connected to the “Day Without Immigrants” protests happening across the country on Monday.
