LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A suspected copper wire theft at an NV Energy substation is believed to be the cause of a power outage in the Las Vegas valley.
The outage began around 3:15 p.m. Monday and affected 12 customers, according to NV Energy.
NV Energy’s preliminary investigation showed that the outage was caused by a suspected copper wire theft at the substation in the area. The investigation into the cause of the outage is still ongoing.
According to NV Energy, as of 6:15 p.m., all but one of the customers affected by the outage had their power restored.
Harry Reid International Airport also reported an outage that affected the C gates in Terminal 1 around 6:45 p.m. Around 8:20 p.m. all power was restored to the airport, according to an airport spokesperson. It is unclear at this time if the two outages are related.
