LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Metro police located a camera inside a Starbucks bathroom, leading them to arrest a customer who employees said repeatedly used the facilities, according to documents 8 News Now obtained.
Raymond Haywood face a charge of capturing, distributing or displaying an image of a private area, records said.
On Monday, several officers responded to the Starbucks on Spring Mountain Road near Valley View Boulevard for a report of a hidden camera in a restroom, documents said.
An employee told police she noticed Haywood buy a coffee and then repeatedly use the bathroom, documents said.
“[She] stated that she then went to use the restroom around 11 a.m. and noticed some shoe [mark] prints on the toilet seat, prompting her to look around inside of the bathroom [when] she noticed a phone camera with its view pointed directed at the toilet below,” police said.
Another employee said he noticed “Haywood was seen using the restroom over nine times over the duration of approximately three hours he was there,” police said.
Officers said they later located a phone pointed downward in an air vent.
“It is important to note that the camera lenses were pointed directly down toward the toilet where it would be able to capture the private area of another person as they used the restroom,” police said.
While speaking with police, Haywood said “he takes medication… which makes him use the restroom often,” documents said. Police said Haywood’s shoes matched the prints in the bathroom.
Haywood posted a surety bond and was due in court in February.
A representative from Starbucks did not immediately return a request for comment. The company recently reversed its open-door policy and now requires customers to purchase an item to stay.
