LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Las Vegas firefighters say a Thursday night fire that engulfed a home in the west valley led to a total loss.

Jeff Corrales was at a family member’s football practice near the house when flames broke out at the home. “Towards the end, we just seen the flames right here over this wall, and we’re like, what’s going on?”

He and a group of other adults immediately sprang into action.

“We’re just, you know, concerned citizens,” Corrales said. “A bunch of parents just hopped over, tried to yell, see if anybody was in, you know, do what we could try to save the house, too. But it was pretty big.”

And big it was — the fire was escalated to a two-alarm fire. Las Vegas firefighters say they had to use two fire hydrants to battle the flames. Water flowed so powerfully that it streamed into the neighboring All American Park, flooding parts of the grass field.

Despite the fire’s size — Corrales and the others hopped the wall to help.

“When I made my way to the front door, there’s a big glass thing right above the front door,” Corrales said. “That blew as soon as I was trying to press the intercom to try to see if anybody could answer, you know, alert anybody. But that glass blew, and I was like, holy crap, it’s that hot inside.”

Residents weren’t home at the time, so no one was hurt. Las Vegas firefighters say one dog is missing.
