LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A condominium fire in the south Las Vegas valley on Saturday damaged 10 units, leaving two cats dead, but no injuries to residents were reported.

At around 2:30 p.m., the Clark County Fire Department (CCFD) responded to the condominium fire near east Hacienda Avenue and Maryland Parkway. A total of 10 residential units were affected as a residential fire broke out at the King Richard Court Condominiums.

“I saw flames coming out of the downstairs building and within 30 seconds it jumped to the top,” resident Terry Woods shared with 8 News Now.

Woods lives feet away from where the flames erupted.

“It was busy, and I was scared because I’ve never seen anything like that down here. A lot of activity,” Woods added.

A nearby resident said the condos don’t have fire extinguishers or alarms, so she only realized what was happening when she saw orange flames through her window.

Her friend jumped in to save a fellow resident.

“We were upstairs, and my friend ran downstairs and knocked on everyone’s door, telling them that there was a fire. She was able to get a resident and his cat out, but she couldn’t get the other cats out, unfortunately,” the nearby resident shared with 8 News Now.

Nikki Morachnick with the American Red Cross explained that at one point, the blaze caused a power outage, but Clark County Fire was able to get it back up and running quickly.

As for the number of residential fires the American Red Cross has seen this year, Morachnick said it’s been a busy season.

“Typically at this time of year, we tend to get very busy. We find a lot of people have accidents with candles and Christmas trees and especially space heaters,” Morachnick said.

The assistant fire chief reported no injuries to firefighters or people. The damage is estimated at approximately $250,000, according to officials.
