LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Southern Highlands residents met up on Monday evening at a neighborhood meeting to voice their concerns about a new development project in the works, happening just feet away from their property.

“We think it’s ridiculous what this developer is trying to accomplish in our community,” Southern Highlands resident, Charles Quinones shared with 8 News Now.

Representatives for developer, DC Peterson showcased what residents can expect, having been in talks with Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones about a multi-home project near the Starr Hill and Montage Marron areas.

“They want to build as many homes as possible on this five-acre plot of land, it’s not right,” fellow resident, Jennifer Mattera shared.

According to neighbors, the plot of land referred to as “Hillside” has certain regulations in place that the developer and the county are not adhering to.

“The ordinance allows up to 18 homes, and their response was come back with nearly double,” Quinones added.

In addition, the homes block the view of the landscape which many residents say is the reason they bought property there to begin with.

Initially, Commissioner Jones asked ‘DC Peterson’ to make changes to its proposed development however, during Monday night’s meeting, Mattera said nothing was changed.

“Commissioner Jones told the developers to come back with a better design and that’s why we’re here. We’ve had no prior information before this meeting even though it was requested and come to find out nothing about the plan is different,” Mattera told 8 News Now.

DC Peterson’s development team declined to comment, but Commissioner Jones shared with 8 News Now that he looks forward to meeting with his staff to understand what input the neighbors provided.

The developer will meet with Commissioner Jones and the rest of the board next week at the Clark County Commission meeting, on Wednesday, December 18th.
