LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Police arrested a second person in a deadly shooting that killed a 19-year-old in May.
Metro police arrested Jay’ar Green on Nov. 27 on charges of open murder, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, and robbery, records showed.
On May 14, police responded to multiple reports of gunshots and a person shot near the pool area of an apartment complex in the 340 block of Sturgeon Lane near Stewart Avenue and Nellis Boulevard.
When officers arrived they found 19-year-old Ammir Smith-Rhodes-Foreman suffering from gunshots. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the shooting stemmed from a marijuana transaction where Green, Jeremiah Smith, 21, and another person planned to make a sale to Foreman.
Police said Smith agreed to the transaction over Instagram with Foreman. Smith drove Green and the other person to the apartment complex where Foreman was. All three men in the vehicle were armed with handguns or various calibers, according to police.
When they arrived at the complex, one of the people in the car mentioned robbing Foreman and Smith pleaded with them to just let him complete the transaction, according to an arrest report.
After Smith sold Foreman the marijuana, one of the men pulled out his firearm and shot at Foreman and the meeting turned into “an explosion of gunfire,” prosecutors said during Smith’s indictment in June.
Gunfire then ensued between Foreman, the unknown man, and everyone who came with Smith. At one point during the shooting, one of the men that came with Smith walked to Foreman’s body on the ground and shot at him repeatedly, the arrest report said.
Police located 45 spent cartridge cases at the murder scene, including several buried in the dirt under Foreman’s body, indicating “at least one of the shooters stood over him and finished him off,” prosecutors said.
Investigators believe Foreman fired two bullets from his weapon in self-defense with the four others firing the remaining 43. In an interview with police, Smith said he did not intend to kill Foreman and only shot into the air, documents said.
On Nov. 27, detectives located Green and arrested him. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 15, 2025.
Police arrested Smith the day after the murder, records said. A Clark County grand jury later indicted Smith on charges including open murder and conspiracy murder.
