LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A home invasion suspect facing charges in a police shooting that left a homeowner dead appeared in a Las Vegas courtroom Monday morning after refusing to show up one week ago.
Bail for Alejandra Bordreaux, 31, of Seattle, Washington, was set at $1 million. Bordreaux was ordered by a judge to make an initial appearance Monday.
Bordreaux is facing charges of home invasion with the use of a deadly weapon, assault domestic violence with the use of a deadly weapon, child abuse/neglect, and disregard for the safety of others resulting in a deadly shooting.
Clark County Distrcit Attorney Stephen Wolfson said a voluntary manslaughter charge wasn’t appropriated for Bordreaux.
At one point, Bordreaux was escorted out of the courtroom to wait until her hearing was called because she lifted her shirt showing her breasts to the judge, and was also staring at the Durham family seated in the courtroom. Family members were there on behalf of Brandon Durham, 43, who was shot and killed by LVMPD Officer Alexander Bookman on Nov. 12 inside his home.
Police responded to Durham’s home after he called 911 and said someone was attempting to enter his home.
According to court documents, when officers arrived, they found damage to several vehicles near the home and a broken window to the home. They also heard banging and screaming and upon entering the home, police video showed Durham and Bordreaux wrestling over a knife and Officer Bookman firing his weapon several times, killing Durham.
Officer Bookman is on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation. When asked whether Bookman would face charges, Wolfson said, “There was a loss of life. I want to be careful. I want to be diligent. I want to be fair.”
Bordreaux, who has a criminal history in Florida and identifies as a transgender woman is currently on suicide watch at the Clark County Detention Center, and is scheduled for another court hearing on Dec. 16.
