LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Incumbent Democratic Sen. Jacky Rosen has won her race against Republican Sam Brown, sending her to the U.S. Senate to represent Nevada for a second term.
As of late Friday, Rosen led Brown by 20,571 votes — or about 1.4%. The newest batch of votes from Clark County included post-Election Day mail and ballots that needed signature curing. The Associated Press called the race for Rosen at 9:15 p.m.
Nevada law requires county clerks to accept and process mail-in ballots postmarked by Election Day until the fourth day after Election Day. The law also allows a voter whose vote was set aside due to a mismatch in signature to verify their identity for their vote to count. That process, alongside Nevada’s often tight election margins, means it can take several days to determine a winner.
Rosen, a Henderson resident, was first elected to Congress as a representative in the U.S. House in 2016. Nevadans first elected her to the Senate in 2018.
Rosen’s race echoes the 2022 U.S. Senate race between Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto and former attorney general and Republican Adam Laxalt. Laxalt led Cortez Masto in the days after the election, but late-arriving mail-in votes swung the race in Cortez Masto’s favor by about 8,000 votes.
Voters have until Nov. 12 to cure their ballot should there be a signature verification issue. Votes can visit cure.nv.gov for more information.
