LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Several officers escorted a Las Vegas student out of a high school on Thursday with his face covered and his legs restrained, videos obtained by 8 News Now show.
The incident happened at Las Vegas Academy of the Arts, located at Bridger Avenue and 7th Street. It’s one of the Clark County School District’s magnet schools.
LVA Principal Lezlie Koepp described the situation in an email to families as an argument among students.
But the videos showed at least a dozen officers were carrying the student horizontally as he wore what’s described as a spit mask.
An officer with the Clark County School District Police Department told 8 News Now it was done to protect the student himself, other students, and responding law enforcement.
“Homie, it’s like three months in dude,” a student said on video.
8 News Now obtained multiple videos from different angles.
“There was some kid knocked out on the floor. There was a fight,” one student said.
Another student said on video, “We got to go. We got to go. The dude got tazed.”
In a letter to families on Thursday, Koepp said there was a verbal argument involving students on campus. Administrators and police worked to diffuse the situation.
But that was not the entire story.
According to a source, CCSDPD responded to reports of a student shoving two girls. When officers arrived, the male student allegedly became irate.
He reportedly began to spit and bite officers, before a spit shield was used to cover his face.
8 News Now currently doesn’t know if the student is facing any charges or disciplinary action.
