LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Renovations on the Huntridge Theater are moving forward. Owner J Dapper said he should have construction permits for the old Las Vegas icon by the second quarter of 2025.

In the meantime, there are some towering troubles on the way.

Historic Preservation Commission Chair Bob Stoldal asked the question on the mind of many at Wednesday’s meeting.

“Has rehabilitation actually started?”

“I would absolutely say, yes,” Dapper answered.

The rehabilitation is a lot of what we can’t see, obtaining grants, historic preservation approvals, etc. Dapper says he would love to start construction today, but there are setbacks.

The owner of the Huntridge Theater says the architectural plan is about 95% complete, but snags are stopping construction from moving. One of which is a cell tower, which sits smack-dab in the planned spot of a new lobby.

As 8 News Now reported back in September, the theater’s owners filed a lawsuit against AT&T, who owns the tower, claiming it’s delaying the restoration process. That cell tower was one of the major topics of Dapper’s presentation to the Historic Preservation Committee.

Regardless of how the theater fares, the business owners who have moved in around it say the revitalized area is doing great. Like Yukon Pizza co-owner Dani White, whose restaurant has been raking in the dough.

“We just had our busiest two weeks the past two weeks,” White said.

White doesn’t just own a business in the neighborhood, she lives there too, and has witnessed the changes firsthand.

“It feels like this area is still staying really true to itself while also reinventing itself constantly,” White said.

The project is expected to cost somewhere from $20-$25 million. Dapper’s next presentation on the theater’s status is happening in December.
