LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Initially, the first bystander to the scene of a crashed vehicle on a Las Vegas freeway said he thought the driver was suffering from a medical episode, but then he saw the gunshot wound.

8 News Now obtained new 911 audio from bystanders, drivers and even the family of the man who was killed after the Aug. 8 fatal shooting in the southbound lanes of I-15 near Flamingo and Spring Mountain roads.

Darin Algee, 31, was shot while driving with his wife and four-year-old son which resulted in him crashing into the freeway center median. A bystander was among the first on the scene with 911 dispatchers on the line.

The shooting took place before 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 8 as Darin Algee, 30, drove his gray 2017 Audi Q5 SUV in the fast lane of I-15, according to Las Vegas Metro detectives. (LVMPD

“He’s bleeding from his mouth, he looks like he is having a seizure,” one 911 caller said.

Lasha Bowie replied to the bystander telling him that her husband had been shot.

“He’s been shot,” the caller said. “He’s bleeding a lot from his mouth and his back.”

In the background, Bowie and her four-year-old can be heard yelling while the 911 dispatcher directs the bystander to add pressure to Algee’s wound with a shirt.

“Please, please,” Bowie said. “Spit it out.”

The bystander told the 911 dispatcher he did not see the other vehicle involved in the crash and said he had only pulled over after seeing Algee’s vehicle in the center median.

Another caller told 911 dispatchers he possibly had video of the crash, a driver from his trucking company witnessed the crash and possibly captured it on a dashboard camera.

“The driver thought he saw that particular incident,” the caller said. “We pulled that front-facing video, there’s a longshot of when that car actually hits the median, I’m not sure your investigators might find some value in it.”

Las Vegas police also received a call from the mother of the victim who said she wanted to contact authorities due to a lack of communication from Bowie following the shooting.

Algee’s widow, Lasha Bowie, declined to provide further details surrounding the shooting citing concerns about interfering with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s investigation and instead wanted to focus on their family’s loss.
