LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A 58-year-old man is missing near Boulder Islands in Lake Mead after a group of paddleboarders encountered heavy winds on Saturday night.
Gregory Bell was with the group when several members fell into the water during the Aug. 10 storm. Five of the paddleboarders were found, but Bell remains missing and a search is ongoing, according to information provided by Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
Bell is Black, 5-feet-8, 207 pounds and bald. He was last seen wearing a black tank top, black floral board shorts and a black-and-white mesh ballcap. He was on a blue and orange paddleboard. Officials said he was not wearing a life jacket.
Boulder Islands are near the Las Vegas Boat Harbor.
Based on weather conditions and wind direction, Bell might have landed northwest of the islands, between Boxcar/Crawdad and Government Wash. An off-road rescue team is taking part in the search.
“Search efforts by land, water, and air are ongoing, with support from the Nevada Department of Wildlife, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue, and Southern Nevada Off Road Recovery,” according to a post on Lake Mead’s Facebook page.
