LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The tastes of the islands are in Las Vegas. June is Caribbean American Heritage Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the contributions of Caribbean Americans to American society, including through food.

Paradise Place is one of the very few authentic Jamaican restaurants in Las Vegas. Located near Sahara Avenue and Rainbow Boulevard, they specialize in the traditional flavors of Jamaican cuisine coupled with an elaborate dining experience featuring live entertainment.

The meals and elaborate flavors come straight from owner Kaheil Easy’s childhood. Easy was born and raised in St. Thomas, Jamaica, but relocated to Las Vegas in the early 2000s. He opened Paradise Place in 2016 to give Las Vegas a taste of his home. “Our food is a full embodiment of our culture. Everything is done traditionally,” said Easy. “We do it the old school way from where Granny used to do it back in the day, we do it the same way to this day. That way we preserve all our flavors and the authenticity of our meals.” On the menu, guests will find a variety of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options including all traditional Jamaican dishes from beef short ribs, to jerk chicken and shrimp, and the most popular item authentic Jamaican oxtails. “You can tell a lot about the culture just by the food,” said Easy. “You can tell a lot about the people just by the food and I think our food is the best representation of our culture. Just by tasting this, you can taste the rich history and flavors that go way back to slavery days.” Paradise Place is open every day from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with extended hours on the weekend.
