LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A 9-year-old is dead after a suspected DUI crash in North Las Vegas on Saturday afternoon, according to North Las Vegas police.

Shortly after 4 p.m., NLVPD responded to the intersection of Ann Road and Simmons Street after reports of a crash involving two vehicles.

Police said the preliminary details showed that a Chevrolet Corvette was driving southbound on Simmons Street when it attempted to make a left turn onto Ann Road while having a red light. At the same time, a Jeep SUV was driving northbound on Simmons Street, approaching the intersection on a green light.

The crash occurred when the Jeep was “unable to avoid the collision” and crashed into the side of the Corvette, causing the Jeep to roll onto its side, police said.

The 9-year-old passenger of the Corvette was found unresponsive and police said several bystanders attempted to perform lifesaving measures on her. She was taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the Jeep sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the Corvette, identified as 63-year-old Christina Sorenson, showed signs of impairment and was arrested on charges of DUI resulting in death, reckless driving resulting in death, and child endangerment resulting in death, police said.
