LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Two men face charges in a deadly North Las Vegas shooting that occurred on Oct. 7, 2023.
Khalife Khayon Ayers, 37, and Marcus Raynard Smith Jr., 41, were apprehended separately in California and extradited to Nevada after North Las Vegas police identified them as suspects in the shooting in the 4200 block of East Craig Road. That’s just west of the intersection of Craig and Lamb Boulevard in the northeast valley.
One man died and another had non-life-threatening injuries in the Oct. 7 shooting at an apartment complex at about 1:30 a.m.
Smith was taken into custody in Harbor City on Oct. 19, 2023, and extradited to Nevada on Nov. 21. Ayers was taken into custody on June 25, 2024, in Harbor City, California, and extradited to Nevada on July 12. Both were booked into the North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center on charges of open murder and attempted murder. The FBI/LAPD Fugitive Task Force made the apprehensions.
Ayers is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, July 30, and Smith has a scheduled appearance on Aug. 20.
