LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Two people were hospitalized after a fire at a northwest Las Vegas valley apartment complex Sunday afternoon, according to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue.
On Sunday around 3:10 p.m., LVFR responded to a structure fire at the Bella Solara Apartments in the 7100 block of Smoke Ranch Road near Tenya Way.
Fire crews arrived at the scene around 3:15 p.m. and at 3:23 p.m. the fire was upgraded to a two-alarm fire. LVFR said the knockdown was called at 3:27 p.m. and crews were actively fighting the fire for 50 minutes to ensure hot spots were found and to avoid the fire spreading to the remainder of the building.
Two people were taken to a local hospital, one for smoke inhalation and the other for exposure while outdoors, LVFR said. One dog was also rescued and taken to a shelter to be assessed and reclaimed.
According to the Red Cross of Southern Nevada, 16 apartments were affected with eight damaged or destroyed by fire and eight damaged by water and smoke. The Red Cross is helping over 30 displaced residents. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and it is under investigation.
“You wake up one day and go to work and then you come home to this,” Gabriela Bustamante shared with 8 News Now.
Bustamante was just one of several residents displaced in Sunday’s fire at the Bella Solara Apt Homes.
“The alarms never went off and my daughter was sleeping in her room and she heard the commotion of the fire trucks and that’s how she knew something was going on,” Bustamante added.
Ryan George has lived at the Bella Solara Apartment Homes for five years and said within that time this is the second fire he’s seen.
“We had a fire here a couple of years ago, across the way in the other units,” George shared.
George also stated that the Red Cross is assisting him and others at this time.
“I know they are setting up a shelter for everyone who is displaced, but we are going to get a hotel at this point,” he added.
