Highway Hypnosis and White Line Fever.

Highway Hypnosis and White Line Fever.
Highway hypnosis, also known as white line fever, is a trance-like drowsiness that can occur with little warning.

Usually occurs after long hours behind the wheel caused by concentration on the road ahead and the monotony of driving.

It is an altered mental state in which a person can drive great distances, responding to external events in the expected, safe and correct manner with no recollection of having consciously done so.

Highway hypnosis manifests the common process of automaticity, where the conscious and subconscious minds can concentrate on different things.

In this state, the driver’s conscious mind is fully focused elsewhere, seemingly still processing the information needed to drive safely.

A common description among drivers that have experienced this phenomenon is complete amnesia, where they have driven for miles and have no recollection of the lost period of time.
